Blog: Historical Breckenridge
For generations the Rocky Mountains served as an inspiration to explorers, artists, writers and countless visitors fortunate enough to bask in the serenity of their jagged peaks. For some, the high alpine valleys became home, and from there, history was made. Beaver Run Resort counts itself among the lucky few whose foundation was laid in the heart and history of these majestic mountains.
With the Breckenridge Ski Area operating through Memorial Day, Breckenridge is truly a year-round town steeped in history that will transport you back to the days of the Gold Rush. Situated slope-side on Peak 9 and just a quick walk down to town, Beaver Run Resort is the perfect location to host your next meeting.
While many ski towns are what we call “purpose built” (someone found a good spot for a ski area and built a town around it), Breckenridge is just the opposite. Gold was discovered along the banks of the Blue River in 1859 and a base camp for mining operations was set up. Fast forward 160 years later, the Blue River still meanders through the Historic Town of Breckenridge. Visitors to Breckenridge have a plethora of historic landmarks to explore including museums, mining sites, camps, and even a locomotive, most of which are certified by the Colorado Historic Society. Lucky for locals and tourists alike, the Ten Mile Range just happened to make for fantastic skiing!
The initial pioneers and settlers may be gone, but a great deal of historic buildings have been preserved and are currently occupied by a few of the hundreds of restaurants, galleries, and retail establishments in town. The whole downtown core of Breckenridge is a leisurely ten-minute walk or complimentary shuttle ride away from our resort, truly giving conference attendees the best of both worlds, nature and Main Street.
With over 40,000 square feet of meeting space throughout our 22 meeting rooms, Beaver Run can accommodate a variety of group needs. Take your breaks on the mountain skiing, hiking or biking and be back in time to enjoy the two pools, seven hot tubs, rooftop tennis court and many other amenities located on property. Beaver Run has multiple dining options from a grab-and-go deli to elevated dining at Spencer’s Steak and Spirits.
Even if you are traveling to the mountains for work, Beaver Run has the location and amenities to make it feel like a vacation. Come see what Beaver Run, our staff, and our Mountains can do to bring your team to our elevation. We promise you will be inspired, just like the Gold Rush pioneers were when they discovered this beautiful land so many years ago.
